Your guide to volunteer opportunities and requirements of San Jose American Little League.

San Jose American Little League runs on the power of its volunteers!  Without our volunteers the kids would not learn the game, the fields would not be kept up, the snack shack would not open, no one would know when to bring snacks and their would be no umpires.  We need and require your assistance.  During the registration process you can sign up to be a volunteer for your child’s team.  Here is a quick outline of the volunteer opportunities on each team:
 
Team Manager:  As team manager you organize and coordinate practices for the team.
Team Coach(s): Each team is allowed to have 2 rostered coaches who will assist the manager organizing practices and preparing the team to play.
Team Parent: The primary role of the team parent is to organize the team snack schedule, coordinate communication, plan an end of year team party and work with the league to be all league information is being communicated to the parents.
Scorekeeper: At the AA level up we have a team scorekeeper who will take score during all games.  The league will provide two scorekeeper clinics prior to the season so that anyone knew to scorekeeping will feel comfortable in this role.
 
Anyone that would like to help the league out by volunteering for any of the positions above are required by Little League regulations to complete a background check.  The form required to be completed can be found here Volunteer Application 2009 and should be turned into the league president prior to taking on your role.
 

Volunteer Requirements

Based on feedback from the Spring/Fall Parent Survey conducted by the league the follow Volunteer requirements have been established:

 

Each Parent of a San Jose American Little League Player will be required to:

 

Write a check to San Jose American Little League for $150.  This check will be held in the League lock box until you complete your volunteer hours.  Once your hours are completed the check will be returned to you by the League Treasurer. 

 

Exemptions: You will be exempt from these requirements only if you are a team manager or coach.

 

Requirements

 

Snack Shack: Each Parent is required to work a minimum of 2 games in the Snack Shack.  This year you will be able to complete your snack shack hours on the days that work best for you.  The complete snack shack schedule is posted on the website by clicking on the snack shack button on any page of the website.  You can sign up for the games, days, times that work best for you and your schedule.  If for some reason you cannot work the shift you signed up for you will be required to find a replacement.  If you are not able to find a replacement please contact the league volunteer coordinator to help in finding a replacement.  If you are a no show for your time and did not attempt to find a replacement then you will forfeit your $150 deposit.

 

Additional Requirements: Each parent is also required to complete four (4) additional hours of volunteer time.  There are several volunteer opportunities including but not limited to: Field clean up days, opening ceremonies, Hit A Ton, Closing ceremonies or umpire just to name a few. 

 

Tracking Hours: Snack Shack hours will be tracked online.  Additional volunteer hours will be track using the 2009 Volunteer hour tracking form.  The hours must be signed off by the member of San Jose American Little League board member responsible for the event.
